Swiss asylum proceedings are among the most complex areas of immigration law. Decisions by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) have far-reaching consequences for those affected and their families. As a specialised attorney with a Master of Law from the University of Zurich, I guide you through the entire process — from the first hearing to the Federal Administrative Court.

The Swiss Asylum Procedure – Step by Step
- Filing the asylum application: At a Federal Asylum Centre (FAC) or upon entry at the border
- Registration and initial interview: Recording of personal data and brief questioning on travel route and identity
- Hearing by the SEM: Detailed questioning on asylum grounds — the most critical step in the process
- SEM decision: Asylum, temporary admission, or rejection with removal order
- Appeal to the Federal Administrative Court: Within 30 days of a negative decision (shorter in accelerated proceedings)
- Removal or protection: Enforcement of removal if legally binding rejection; residence permit if upheld
Why Legal Representation Is Crucial
The hearing before the State Secretariat for Migration is the decisive moment in the entire asylum process. What is said — and what is left unsaid — significantly shapes the decision. Later corrections or additions are met with considerable scepticism.
As an experienced attorney, I prepare you specifically for the hearing: we structure your story, identify the legally relevant grounds for persecution and ensure that all material facts are presented completely and credibly.
